Platform Benefits
Guidewire's industry leading technology platform gives insurance companies a solid base for their core operations. Our technology gives our individual applications their exceptional reliability, flexibility, and performance, and enables insurers to reduce long-term cost of ownership by consolidating on a single suite of applications.
- The extensive configurability of the Guidewire platform, coupled with an insurance-specific rules engine, gives insurers complete control over their core applications. While customers can choose to use the screens and rules delivered by Guidewire "out of the box," they can also modify screens and rules as desired or even completely rewrite them. As a result, insurers can gain all the benefits of a custom system developed entirely to their own specifications, without having to rebuild the core technology components provided by the Guidewire platform.
- Guidewire's extensive performance testing ensures that end users benefit from responsive, easy-to-use applications, and growing companies can support larger populations simply by adding more servers. Clustering provides failover, so the loss of one application server does not have to bring mission-critical operations to a halt. Because Guidewire applications can run on standard, relatively low-cost platforms, insurers can avoid large investments in additional hardware and software.
- The robust integration layer means that insurers can integrate their core applications to any other systems inside or outside the enterprise. Our customers have integrated to legacy policy and claims systems, back-end accounting systems, check printing systems, medical bill review systems and services, standard industry databases and data sources, call center systems and services, state reporting services, litigation management systems, portal applications, document management and imaging systems, vendor management systems, and many others. None of our customers has had an integration requirement that could not be met using our existing integration technology.
- By implementing multiple Guidewire applications, insurers can share a common set of skills and knowledge across their core systems portfolio. Business and IT team members who know how to configure, write business rules for, or integrate with one Guidewire application can immediately work with any other of our applications. Because Guidewire applications are seamlessly integrated, the additional work required to integrate to custom legacy systems can often be reduced or eliminated. As a result, IT organizations can reduce both overall implementation time and the ongoing cost of system maintenance and mangaement.
- Guidewire's test-first development process and rigorous automated testing make our applications among the most reliable in the enterprise software industry. In addition, our emphasis on testing and quality gives us tremendous flexibility to respond to customer needs. Because our automated tests protect our applications against "regression" - changes in one part of a system that cause problems in another part - we can add new functionality rapidly, even late in a release cycle. As a result, critical new functionality can be delivered in a few months, rather than requiring a year or more of planning and development.
The Guidewire platform gives insurance carriers the foundation they need for their core operations in the twenty-first century.
