### The Story

When your policyholders are stakeholders in your business, providing the utmost in customer service is paramount to remain competitive. Such is the mission of Promutuel Insurance, which comprises 26 mutual associations, one company jointly owned by all 26 mutuals, and a federation. Founded in 1852, it is now one of Québec’s largest P&C insurers and provides Personal Auto, Home, Commercial, and Farm insurance lines to its policyholder members.

Promutuel’s “mutualist values” drive the company to meet and exceed the expectations of insured members and clients, and they do it by employing the most modern digital technologies. The company chose to standardize its claims system and processes with Guidewire ClaimCenter for its Personal, Commercial, and Farm lines of business across all its independent member companies.

“Harmonizing claims processes across all of our mutuals—that’s the big transformation,” said Sylvain Fauchon, the company’s CEO. “With ClaimCenter in place, we can imagine a real change in the way we do business.”

For the first time in Promutuel’s history, all member associations have a common claims system with consistent, verified data; follow the same business processes; and manage information in the same way. As a result, claims resources are allocated across all member organizations, which creates numerous efficiency gains and reduces the need for independent adjusters.

Next, Promutuel selected Guidewire PolicyCenter as its new underwriting and policy administration solution. This move enabled the insurer to reduce costs and, at the same time, standardize underwriting in its Commercial and Farm lines. Additionally, as part of its business transformation and Guidewire PolicyCenter implementation project, the company—along with its implementation partner, V-NEO—created a new change management strategy and built a global e-learning foundation, training 450 employees on PolicyCenter. As a result of these efforts, the company was awarded the “Celent Model Insurer of the Year” award in 2016.

Thanks to Guidewire’s digital platform, Promutuel is now ready to break into new markets with a new logo, advertising campaign, unified claims system across all 26 mutual associations, and a new policy system for Commercial and Farm lines.

“Promutuel has always been a reliable, safe insurer, but now we aim to be more competitive by using the best tools in the market,” says Guy Lecours, the company’s Senior Vice President for Sales, Distribution, and Strategic Partnerships.
