For more than seven years, Amina Taniguchi has been helping shape the future of insurance technology at Guidewire. Today, as a Technical Consultant on Guidewire's Solution Advisory team, she partners with insurers across Japan and APAC to explore how cloud technology and AI can support their transformation goals. Her career has evolved from building customer-specific solutions behind the scenes to working directly with insurers to understand their challenges and explore what technology can make possible.

From Building Solutions to Advising Customers

"I started in a solution engineering-focused pre-sales role, where I spent my time building customer-specific solutions, worked out how they should be designed, and troubleshot them when something wasn’t working. Being that hands-on gave me a deep understanding of the technology and how it needed to adapt to different customer needs.

Over time, I realized how much I enjoyed the customer-facing side of the work. I liked explaining why we'd designed a solution in a certain way and seeing a customer's reaction.  I found that I really enjoyed being the bridge between what was technically possible and what a customer actually needed.

Moving into my current role felt like a natural progression because I still get to build while also helping insurers across Japan and APAC think through how technology can support their goals."

From Proofs of Concept to Customer Conversations

That mix of hands-on technical work and customer collaboration still defines Amina’s role today.

"My work tends to fall into two modes, builder and translator.

Some days, I'm deep in technology, configuring products, building proofs of concept, and exploring the Guidewire Cloud Platform and AI capabilities. Other days, I'm leading technical workshops, delivering demonstrations, and helping business and IT stakeholders understand how technology can solve significant challenges.

Staying hands-on with the technology helps me answer detailed questions and understand where a proposed solution might run into problems. Those conversations push me to think beyond whether a solution works technically and consider what it will actually help the customer do."

Learning to Trust Her Technical Judgment

"One of the biggest lessons I've learned is to trust my own judgement. Early in my career, I was often the person closest to the technical details, but it took time to realize that this also meant I had valuable insight into what would genuinely work for a customer.”

“Technology evolves quickly, whether it's cloud, AI, or data. Rather than feeling pressure to know everything, I've learned to stay curious and be transparent about what I know, what I’m still exploring, and how I’ll find the answers.. That mindset has helped me build trust with both customers and colleagues."

That same sense of growth is also part of what has kept Amina at Guidewire.

Why Guidewire Japan?

"I've stayed at Guidewire because I'm still learning, and I'm surrounded by people who are generous with their expertise. I can also see the impact our work has for customers. Our values of integrity, rationality, and collegiality genuinely show up in how we work every day.

Insurance plays an important role in helping people and businesses recover from unexpected events. Knowing that the technology we build helps insurers respond faster and more fairly makes the work incredibly meaningful."
