With the largest network of developers in the P&C industry, we want to highlight different members of our community. Guidewire’s Developer Advisory Group members help shape the developer community by participating in group calls, giving input on Guidewire projects, and sharing valuable feedback from their personal experiences using Guidewire.

This blog includes a brief “get to know you” interview with one of our advisory group members so you can get to know them, understand what motivates them, and read their advice for other developers who may be new to Guidewire.

Meet Prasath from Sompo

Prasath Parthiban

Name: Prasath Parthiban
Job Title: Assistant Vice President – Solution Design Business Analyst
Company: Sompo

How long have you been working with Guidewire products?

I have been working with Guidewire products for more than a decade, holding senior roles on large-scale Property & Casualty (P&C) transformations. My experience spans everything from initial strategy to production rollout, including end‑to‑end implementations, core‑systems modernization and preparing for Guidewire Cloud.

Over the past three years, my involvement with the Developer Advisory Group has helped shape product evolution and field guidance used by insurers worldwide. This includes emerging areas such as cloud optimization and AI‑enabled automation.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I’m most energized by the opportunity to deliver outcomes that are mission‑critical for both my organization and the broader P&C ecosystem. I get to lead initiatives that measurably improve efficiency, compliance, and competitiveness, including:

  • Migrating core platforms to Guidewire Cloud
  • Introducing AI‑driven capabilities that elevate underwriting and claims decisions
  • Ensuring resilient, scalable architectures

I also mentor engineers and actively contribute to the Developer Advisory Group. This allows me to extend my impact beyond individual projects to the industry’s implementation standards and best practices.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting out in development or who is new to using Guidewire?

Treat Guidewire development as a fusion of engineering excellence and insurance domain mastery. Build a solid foundation in Cloud, AI, and low‑code tools, but pair that with deep knowledge of P&C lines of business, from underwriting to claims and billing. This ensures your solutions align tightly with business objectives. I also recommend:

  • Completing the Guidewire training curriculum
  • Maintaining current certifications
  • Adhering to reference architectures and configuration over customization

This discipline leads to sustainable, upgrade‑friendly implementations that deliver long‑term value.
