The new Platform Usage Dashboard closes the visibility gap for teams managing Guidewire Cloud Platform (GWCP) resources. In our latest product webinar, Guidewire’s Colum O’Reilly, Product Management Director, and Brady Haggstrom, Senior Manager, Product Marketing, deliver an overview on moving from reactive monthly reporting to proactive, real-time monitoring of Guidewire Credit consumption. In the demo, they covered the new feature and its background, shared how it worked with a demo, and provided steps on operationalizing cloud governance as well as actions to get started with the feature now.

If you missed the live session, this post breaks down the technical highlights and the specific timestamps you need to see to master the new feature.

The Technical Highlights for Developers

While the webinar covers the strategic importance of the Platform Packaging and Pricing (PPP) model, as developers, the real value lies in the real-time observability of Guidewire Credits consumption by different cloud resource and platform services. Here is what we’re digging into:

1. Transitioning to a Proactive Posture

Take a look at the latest unified dashboard view tracking 22+ products.

  • The key takeaway: Platform Usage Dashboard is a self-service monitoring tool that provides real-time insights into Guidewire Credit consumption of cloud resources and services for customers on the Platform Packaging and Pricing (PPP) program.

2. Per-Second Credit Tracking and Calculation

The demo shows how the usage calculation engine is accurate down  to the second. This improves over the prior model that had less granularity in its reporting to Guidewire customers.

  • Why it matters: The dashboard uses a color-coded gauge (Green/Amber/Red) to forecast your annual consumption based on current velocity and amount of Guidewire Credits, allowing for precise and informed budgeting with your stakeholders.

3. "Planet" Deprovisioning Workflow with Credit Return

Colum used the example of deprovisioning a non-production "planet" (environment) to demonstrate how it triggers a Credit return.

  • Pro-Tip: Pay close attention to the self-service provisioning tool integration. This is the mechanism that allows you to shut down orphaned resources from a sprint and see those Credits returned to your account balance in real time.

Practical Next Steps

Watching the session is the first step. To operationalize these insights, follow these next steps:

  1. Sign-Up for PPP: You must be on the Platform Packaging and Pricing (PPP) model to enable this feature. If you aren't seeing this new dashboard  in the Guidewire Home navigation bar, contact your representative to discuss next steps.
  2. Deep-Dive the Docs: Once you've watched the webinar, review the product documentation to understand the specifics of its coverage to the 22+ products currently integrated.
  3. Personalized Feature Intro: Meet with your Technical Account Manager (TAM) or Customer Success Manager (CSM) to get an introduction going over the feature that will support a governance framework that leverages these alerts to notify you and trigger resource reviews.

Watch the webinar, access the dashboard, and start governing your Guidewire Credits with the same technical rigor you apply to your codebase.
