The Story
Founded in 1896, Germania Farm Insurance is the largest farm mutual insurer in Texas. While the company has long utilized modern core systems, they recognized that managing their own on-premises hardware limited their ability to scale quickly. The goal was simple: shift daily operational activities to Guidewire so the internal team could focus on what matters most—digital transformation and member service.
The journey to operational agility began with an intensive core cloud migration. Starting in April 2021, Germania Farm worked closely with Guidewire Delivery Services to transition nearly all lines of business onto InsuranceSuite on Guidewire Cloud. Going live in August 2022, the migration successfully moved PolicyCenter, ClaimCenter, BillingCenter, and digital portals away from local servers.
This transition unlocked immediate infrastructure benefits. "Since going to the cloud, the slowness we were having on-premises has almost disappeared," noted Tim Tarnowski, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer. By migrating, Germania Farm stabilized its platform performance and established the essential data foundation needed to become one of the first carriers to deploy Claims Intel, an AI solution for claims predictive modeling.
Germania Farm found that the integration of Claims Intel was a natural evolution of their existing workflows.
"The implementation was pretty seamless because Intel mirrors our existing reassignment process. The functionality appears to be working properly when triggered, and we can see exactly what drove the recommendation."
- Robert Eledge, Director of Casualty Claims
This clarity has led to high adjuster acceptance, as recommendations are simply accepted and referred without the usual friction of manual reassignment. This seamless adoption has translated into immediate, high-impact outcomes. The implementation of Claims Intel has enabled the faster identification and routing of complex claims at or near the First Notice of Loss (FNOL). This shift has led to a meaningful reduction in rework on coverage and liability investigations, resulting in time savings of up to several hours per file in some cases. Beyond the operational efficiency and anticipated improvement in claims cycle times, the transition has fostered strong adjuster trust.
“Before Claims Intel, teams frequently had to ‘pump the brakes’ to redo investigations because a claim was caught too late in the process,” noted Jimmie Fucik, Head of BI/Complex Claims. “Today, that type of rework is not even happening anymore. By capturing these files at FNOL, the system is saving substantial time for the entire team. There are fewer people saying a claim shouldn’t have come over, which is definitely a positive."
Looking ahead, Germania Farm is looking at additional use cases for Claims Intel, specifically focusing on Auto Subrogation and deeper segmentation logic.
