The Story
Beneva, Canada’s largest mutual insurance company, was formed in 2020 through the merger of La Capitale and SSQ Insurance. Headquartered in Quebec City, it employs over 5,500 people and offers life, health, property and casualty insurance, and investment products.
Beneva’s legacy systems lacked the flexibility needed for the evolving digital insurance landscape. With customer expectations shifting, Beneva committed to a full technology overhaul.
“Beneva’s goal is to become an insurance company where everything is simple,” said Catherine Desgagnés-Belzil, EVP and Leader of Business Performance and Information Technology. “We want to accompany our members through different stages in life and ensure they know we are there to help.”
Facing a labor shortage, Beneva also needed to streamline operations and improve automation. Legacy systems made onboarding difficult, slowing training and productivity. Technology upgrades were critical to boosting efficiency and meeting workforce and customer needs.
Beneva launched a digital transformation with Guidewire, leveraging cloud-based solutions like InsuranceSuite, Advanced Product Designer (APD), and the Jutro Digital Platform.
Beneva Improves Efficiency with the Jutro Platform Capabilities
The Jutro Digital Platform improved customer interactions: “Claims is the most important piece of a customer’s journey in insurance,” noted Rania Tzortzatos, Senior Director, Web Strategy and Acceleration. “Customers want to understand where they stand with a claim, and the Jutro Digital Platform has allowed us to create that seamless experience.”

APD accelerated product development, reducing timelines, and fostering innovation. “It’s no longer a technology-heavy process — it’s a collaborative effort where business users take the lead, driving innovation faster than ever before,” said Éric Marcoux, Information Technology Vice President, Property and Casualty Insurance.
To address labor shortages, Beneva partnered with Cégep de Saint Foy to build a skilled workforce pipeline. “The program at Cégep, in partnership with Guidewire and GFT, gives students an opportunity to learn the Guidewire Cloud Platform,” said Marcoux. “Once they complete the program, Beneva offers them a job, and they onboard faster.”
Innovation Meets Education for the Future
Beneva’s transformation with Guidewire has modernized processes, empowered teams, and enhanced customer experiences. “Everything we do is about putting our customers at the center and making it simple to work with us,” emphasized Desgagnés-Belzil.
