Product Engineer

Guidewire is seeking a Product Engineer to join our Professional Services AI Engineering team in Bangalore. You will work as a dedicated dev-side member of a Strike Team, pairing with an AI Engineer to deliver standard-complexity AI productization projects end-to-end. You will also flex into supporting higher-complexity projects led by Senior Product Engineers when the team needs additional dev capacity.
This role suits someone with solid development fundamentals who is excited to learn how AI features get built and shipped in production, working alongside Senior engineers and inside well-defined platform blueprints.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
• Feature Delivery: Build REST APIs, wire up frontend components, and implement feature logic for assigned AI productization projects. Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Copilot) to accelerate delivery.
• Strike Team Execution: Work as the dedicated dev on standard-complexity projects, or as the second dev on a flagship project under a Senior Product Engineer’s lead.
• Platform Consumption: Build on top of the team’s shared CI/CD, auth, vector DB, and UI/UX foundations. Surface friction points back to the platform team.
• AI Integration: Integrate LLM-backed components together with your AI Engineer partner — invoke prompts, handle responses, wire up observability. You will apply the team’s AI integration patterns, contribute your perspective on how they’re used, and partner with your AI Engineer on the deeper modeling work.
• Code Quality: Write clean, tested, reviewable code. Participate actively in code review and design discussions.
• Continuous Learning: Grow into a Senior Product Engineer over time by deepening dev skills and broadening AI integration understanding.
KPIs & Success Metrics
• On-time delivery of well-scoped features within Strike Team commitments.
• Code quality: review pass rate, test coverage, and low defect escape.
• Successful integration of AI components into production paths.
• Effective consumption of platform blueprints — minimal reinvention, friction surfaced back to the platform team.
• Demonstrated growth toward Senior Product Engineer competencies.
Key Skills & Experience
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience: 3+ years of software engineering experience in a production environment.
• Technical Proficiency:
– Solid skills in at least one production backend language (Java, Python, or TypeScript).
– Working REST API design experience and comfort with SQL databases.
– Familiarity with at least one frontend framework (React preferred).
– Comfort using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Copilot) for daily development.
– Working familiarity with Git workflows, automated testing, and CI/CD.
• Engineering Excellence: Demonstrated ability to ship well-scoped features in close collaboration with senior engineers. Strong judgment about when to partner with specialists and when to escalate.
• Mindset: Curious about how AI features are built end-to-end, comfortable working in pair-programming or close-collaboration settings.
Preferred Skills & Experience
• Cloud: Hands-on experience with any AWS services (Lambda, ECS, RDS, API Gateway).
• AI Exposure: Any prior exposure to LLM APIs or RAG-based applications.
• Guidewire Knowledge: Familiarity with Guidewire products is a plus but not required.
