The Story
MOTER Technologies, a data-driven insurtech company and Managing General Agent (MGA), is dedicated to bridging the gap between the automotive ecosystem and the insurance industry. By specializing in the science of vehicle data, MOTER enables Automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to offer seamless, embedded insurance products directly to their customers. While legacy carriers often struggle with the technical barriers of connected car data, MOTER was built specifically to turn that data into actionable risk insights.
"Most insurers digitize existing processes, but MOTER chose to start from scratch—designing Personal Auto insurance around the needs of OEMs, agents, and modern consumers," said Scott Nelson, Chief Insurance Officer at MOTER. "From the ground up, MOTER built a product experience where data, automation, and user experience drive the entire value chain—and Guidewire was the platform that made it real."
To meet the high branding standards of global automotive leaders, MOTER required a front-end that could be both robust and highly adaptable. WIth the help of PwC, they turned to the Jutro Digital Platform to build their interface. "By leveraging the Jutro Digital Platform, we created a high-fidelity, white-label UI that allows us to deliver a seamless consumer journey integrated directly into the car-buying process," said Adrian Thompson, Chief Customer Officer at MOTER. "This framework ensures we maintain over 90% component reusability while still providing each OEM partner with a unique, fully branded experience that meets their specific aesthetic requirements."
The foundation of this innovation is MOTER’s data-driven Personal Auto engine, architected on the InsuranceSuite on Guidewire Cloud. MOTER created a unified environment where information moves at the speed of the digital car-buying process. "At the center of this innovation is our data-driven engine on Guidewire Cloud, where we leverage more than 100 real-time data points per quote to automate every stage of the process, from underwriting and pricing to discounting," said Nelson. "The use of Cloud Data Access (CDA) ensures we have the real-time visibility needed to refine our risk models and improve operational efficiency."
Speed to market was a critical differentiator for MOTER as they competed for OEM partnerships. Working with PwC, they utilized Guidewire Marketplace accelerators to bypass traditional development hurdles. "We successfully executed one of the industry's fastest-ever Guidewire rollouts, streamlining operations onto a unified platform," Nelson noted. "This didn’t just accelerate our growth as a personal auto MGA; it enabled us to execute a full-suite implementation for Commercial Auto in under three months, which is an incredible benchmark for the industry."
Beyond core policy management, the platform’s ability to ingest and interpret telematics data is what truly sets it apart. "Our ability to ingest direct vehicle data through Guidewire Cloud gives us an impartial perspective on liability that traditional insurers simply cannot match," added Thompson. "These technical capabilities have become the focus of our talking points with potential OEMs and have led directly to business development success in multiple cases."
The integration of third-party services like Verisk for driver and vehicle data, Docusign for signatures, and One Inc for payments further ensures a "zero-touch" digital experience. "The seamless integration with our partners eliminated manual steps and gave us the ability to generate tailored, accurate quotes in seconds," says Nelson.
Looking to the future, MOTER is already preparing for the shift toward autonomous mobility. Their Guidewire-based architecture is ready to transition from driver-centric risk to vehicle-centric liability. "We are focused on getting our software onto the vehicle so we can provide an impartial perspective on liability," Nelson explained. "Our automation rate is already exceeding industry benchmarks, and by continuing to scale on Guidewire Cloud, we are ready to lead the industry into the next frontier of mobility."
