The P&C insurance technology landscape is defined by continuous evolution. For developers, architects, and technical leaders, staying ahead requires a clear understanding of not just new tools, but of the entire ecosystem—from what devs are using to what drives career growth.

To provide this clarity, we've published the 2025 P&C Developer Trends and Insights Report. This report aggregates anonymous survey responses from developers across the Guidewire ecosystem, providing a data-informed benchmark for technology adoption, satisfaction, and the future of P&C development.

Here are four key findings from the report:

1. AI Adoption Is Practical, Not Just Hype

AI has moved from a theoretical concept to a practical tool in the developer workflow. The data shows that about 4 in 5 developers currently use or plan to use AI-powered tools.

The sentiment is broadly favorable, with fewer than 13% of respondents viewing AI's role unfavorably. This adoption isn't driven by trends, but by practical outcomes. 81% of developers are seeking increased productivity from AI, followed by faster learning and greater efficiency. Developers expect AI to become more integrated in core tasks like writing code, testing, and analytics.

2. The Evolving P&C Tech Stack: Core vs. Emerging

The report data provides a clear picture of the current P&C developer's toolkit.

  • Core Languages: Gosu, SQL, and Java are the most-used languages for development work for Guidewire developers.
  • Emerging Interests: For the second year in a row, there is significant interest in learning Python and TypeScript.
  • Development Environments: IntelliJ is the most regularly used IDE (64.5%), followed by Notepad++ (48.5%) and Visual Studio Code (36.5%).
  • Cloud Platforms: AWS is the dominant platform, with nearly 50% of developers using it or planning to in the next year, followed by Microsoft Azure (27.3%).
  • Web Frameworks and Technologies: React.js, Spring Boot, and Node.js dominate the development landscape. React.js is the top-ranked framework, while Spring Boot and Node.js are the most popular web technologies.

"Trending interest in React.js and TypeScript reflects a deeper industry shift toward de-risking technology bets and unifying development teams,” said Pablo Bermejo, Principal Product Manager at Guidewire.

“The high interest in Python and TypeScript confirms that P&C developers are actively looking to integrate modern data science, artificial intelligence, and sophisticated web experiences, including TypeScript and React, into their core ecosystem,” remarked Jonathan Michael, Director of Developer Relations at Guidewire.

“This affirms our product strategy at Guidewire to modernize the development experience on Guidewire Cloud Platform, incorporating AI with Developer Assistants for Gosu, Integration, and Jutro; as well as Guidewire Functions which utilizes TypeScript to streamline development across applications and digital experiences.”

3. A Data-Backed Link Between Certification and Career Satisfaction

Understanding developer satisfaction is critical for building and retaining strong teams. Overall, the outlook is positive: 4 in 5 developers are satisfied with their career opportunities working on Guidewire projects, with an overall satisfaction score of 3.86/5, which is in line with broader industry benchmarks and a 2% increase from our 2024 survey.

A key finding from the report is the positive correlation between certification and satisfaction with available career opportunities. Our survey data shows that developers with an Ace certification are more satisfied with their career opportunities. This finding suggests that achieving these certification milestones provide opportunity for fulfillment and signals a clear path for career growth.

“Guidewire relies on the Ace community who have invested their time and energy to become leaders in their field. It is a cohort like this that helps us ensure quality implementations.” - Kelly Lynch, Senior Director, Education Success at Guidewire

4. Learning Is Continuous and Self-Driven

The P&C developer community is highly engaged in continuous learning. The report found that developers use a mix of resources to learn and stay current, primarily:

  • On-the-job training
  • Online courses
  • Technical documentation

For Guidewire-specific skills, developers utilize Guidewire Documentation to understand technical details of Guidewire products and services as well as Guidewire Education for official training courses. This is supplemented by other platforms like Udemy and Pluralsight for broader development skills.
